Is Kendall a Celebrity You'd Actually Want to Take Betting Tips From?
Betting has become so mainstream that celebrities like Kendall Jenner are starring in ads for it. There are a ton like her. Familiar faces can help drive engagement up, and if FanDuel or BetMGM happens to get a celebrity you like, it can increase your desire to use that sportsbook or that betting service.
But the question remains, are these celebrities, namely Kendall Jenner, people who have good betting advice? With all due respect, everyone is trying to make money by doing this, and getting advice on when to bet and what to bet on can be so important.
So does Jenner have anything worthwhile to say to potential gamblers?
Kendall Jenner may not be a good betting advice source
Kendall Jenner recently appeared on a Fanatics Sportsbook commercial. Her appearance there inevitably connects her to the betting industry. Even if she's just a face, she's a part of this ever-growing industry. Does she know what she's talking about?
In the ad, she joked that she's made a ton of money (her $60 million net worth) by betting against her NBA ex-boyfriends. She's dated Devin Booker, Jordan Clarkson, Ben Simmons, and Blake Griffin, and according to the joke commercial, her fortune was made in taking the unders on those players.
The ad is meant to be totally silly, but it holds a nugget of truth that you'll definitely want to take note of. She then transitions to NFL betting, and she has not yet dated an NFL player. There, she had to bet on the sport without a connection.
She decided to back the New England Patriots in this Super Bowl ad. Famously, they fell well short in the game. Just like Drake, Jenner would've lost a ton of money if she'd actually placed a wager. That sort of public failure, even in a commercial that wasn't real, indicates that she does not know ball, so to speak.
There was probably no specific reason to mention the Patriots there. It's a Super Bowl spot, so she had to choose one of the teams, but she chose wrong. The Patriots never even looked remotely competitive, and that's who the famous Kardashian was backing? Sorry, I'm not really looking to take sports or betting advice from her.
Celebrities don't know how to bet well
In general, celebrities do not know how to gamble. Drake and Kendall Jenner are good examples. The Drake Curse is very real, and in her most public attempt to influence bettors, Jenner was dead wrong just like Drake. They were romantically linked in 2016, and seeing how they both picked the wrong Super Bowl team, that just makes sense.
There are tons of celebrity sponsors for sportsbooks. Just to give you an idea, here are some:
FanDuel
- Rob Gronkowski
- John Cena
- Jordan Spieth
- Dr Disrespect
- Charles Barkley
- Pat McAfee
Caesars Sportsbook
- Peyton Manning
- Eli Manning
- JB Smoove
- Halle Berry
Hard Rock Bet
- Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Fanatics
- Justin Thomas
- Megan Thee Stallion
In some instances, these celebrities would know something about sports, so if that's where you're betting, maybe LeBron James, Kyle Busch, Derek Jeter, Peyton Manning, Charles Barkley, or Bryson DeChambeau could help.
However, they wouldn't be giving legitimate, in-depth advice since it would mess with the integrity of the sport, which is a big concern of some fans today. So, those celebrities are out. Don't listen to them. They wouldn't know how to help in other forms of gambling or in poker or some card game with money on it, either.
These celebrities don't have good advice to give. They're hired to be a recognizable face. If you want betting advice, look to professional bettors or people who know the industry inside and out. If they're not connected to a gambling company as it is, they might be impartial enough to help. Otherwise, you and I are better off on our own.
