PrizePicks Review: How Does It Work and Which States Are Available

PrizePicks has elevated itself to the top of the game in the popular pick ’em-style daily fantasy arena. The “More or Less” platform has resonated with many sports bettors across the major sports, making it easier than ever to profit.

In my PrizePicks review, I’ll break down the easy-to-understand model, current promotions, how it stacks up against the fierce competition, and a whole lot more.

PrizePicks DFS Review: A Good Place to Get Started, Room for Improvement

The pick’em format, with no salary caps or roster management, is the perfect way to jumpstart having some skin in the game. A lot of people don’t have the time to research picks, so this simple format puts everyone in the heat of the competition.

For mobile users, the entire experience is fantastic, with a lively layout that is a breeze to navigate through. All of the major sports and leagues are well represented, leaving few markets left unattended to.

But not everything in this life is perfect, and I have to dock PrizePicks a couple of points for a few areas that are lacking for being one of many DFS sites.

For starters, the $50 welcome bonus is modest compared to the sportsbooks we frequent. Also, the head-to-head competitions are basically for fun - no money involved - which can kill the life from the party. Lastly, there are no best-ball competitions, which could be added in some form.

I wouldn’t say it’s so much of a knock on PrizePicks, but this is just a very simple all-around platform - and they do it well.

PrizePicks’ $50 Welcome Offer is the Industry Standard… Boring! 

The welcome offer at PrizePicks is about as straightforward as it gets, but you’ll need to make a $10 deposit before you do anything. It doesn't require a PrizePicks promo code.

Once your account is funded, just place a first-time lineup of $5 or more, and regardless of whether it wins or loses, you’ll instantly get $50 in bonus lineups. The bonus is credited to your account as playable funds, and there aren’t any additional requirements hidden in the fine print - you’re good to go! 

One of the major advantages between PrizePicks and the competition is that you’ll have 90 days to your bonus, unlike the 7-14-day window you get elsewhere. The bonus must be used playing lineups on PrizePicks, and it cannot be withdrawn as cash back to your account without playing at least once.

With this bonus, you can check out the different markets and take a self-guided tour around PrizePicks. Maybe you can even pick up a couple of extra bucks to build up a bankroll.

For the existing customers, PrizePicks has both daily and weekly promotions to take advantage of. The boosts are aplenty, with chances to increase the potential winnings on your lineups, and you can score additional bonuses for every friend you refer. Occasionally, you’ll be treated to deposit matches, free entries, as well as the Power Play and Flex Play options that serve as boosts on multipliers for your winnings.

Welcome Offer Rating: 4/5 

Honestly, I believe the $50 welcome offer comes up short in the grand spectrum of gameplay. I’m well aware that DFS companies are not sportsbooks, but they do have to sweeten the pot a little more to pull me away from the sportsbook. PrizePicks could be a bit more generous, in my opinion.

Lack of VIP Rewards: We’re Not in the Club

Unfortunately, PrizePicks doesn’t have one of those fancy VIP/loyalty rewards programs. They did roll out a beta Platinum membership program (fka Premier) that came out early in 2026, but the kinks are still being ironed out. Not everyone has access to this, and it also means you won’t receive any points for any volume you’re playing.

In place of those rewards, PrizePicks customers get more frequent bonuses and promotions, which everyone loves. According to the online discussion forums, frequent players have discussed getting personalized emails or push notifications from the app for bonuses, but that’s about it. Bummer, dude.

VIP Club Rating: 2/5

While I do appreciate the casual bonus drops, I feel like there needs to be a loyalty rewards program for existing customers. That feels commonplace around the industry, so PrizePicks certainly won’t be getting a glowing score here in this section.

PrizePicks Surprises with Live Options

PrizePicks has a live betting feature on its platform called “Live Squares,” allowing you to make in-game picks on certain player stats in all of the major leagues like the NFL, NBA, MLB, and more.

It has the same “More or Less” playing style and lineup construction, and you’ll be betting on whether or not players will go over or under their projected mark. What’s interesting is that you can combine the Live Squares with the regular pregame picks, adding a whole new level of excitement.

Unlike sports betting, there is no live cashout feature, as all picks are locked in and marked as final until the end of the game. I’m alright with that, considering DFS is already a compromise in some of these states.

Live Betting Rating: 5/5

In terms of DFS play, I think the Live Squares are an absolute slam-dunk success! Most of the time, DFS play feels very limited, and this is a truly liberating experience for the entire industry.

A Lot of Options with PrizePicks’ Game Offerings

PrizePicks doesn’t necessarily deal with odds, but of course, they have to set the projection akin to what sportsbooks will typically offer on the given prop; the projections will often change up or down throughout the day, giving it that real sportsbook feel in the DFS squared circle.

I mean, we never see changes in DFS player pricing on any given day, so this is definitely an exciting wrinkle in the mix - and not everyone loves that. More on that in the community complaints section…

If there is any comparison to odds with PrizePicks, it would have to be the multipliers you can attribute to each lineup. On these, the Power Play is a high-risk/high-reward situation, needing to get six picks right like a parlay.

In flex play, you’ll be allowed one loss on a 3+ pick lineup, so we can link that to round robins. The Demon and Goblin variants have some wild multipliers that go up to 25x if you get all six picks right.

Odds Comparison Rating: 4.8/5

I definitely like the creativity PrizePicks shows in this area. In reality, it’s probably not a good thing for the bettor if a projection goes up or down against their favor, but it does keep you on your toes. 

PrizePicks’ Mobile App Comes Through in the Clutch

The PrizePicks mobile app gets exceptional marks on iOS, with a 4.8/5 rating (15,000+ reviews), but only a 4.2/5 on Android. As an Android user, I still found the app to be pretty damn good, as it was quick, very stylish, and the real-time scoring was as up-to-date as humanly possible.

Of course, doing everything on the desktop version gives you more room to operate, but I really didn’t mind the mobile aspect all that much. In fact, I argue that the mobile version was equal to, if not better than, the desktop version, and it works as one of the DFS apps with a sign-up bonus.

Online forum haters have mentioned there are some slow load times during the most popular events, but that seems to be the norm around the industry; geolocation checks were another concern. Nevertheless, any min or hardships didn’t deter the whole operation.

Mobile App Rating: 4.8/5

There’s a lot to like here with the mobile app - yes, even if you’re on an Android. It does feel like a rave-ish layout with the black, purple, neon green layout, but the navigation and ease to it was first-class.

PrizePicks Goes Through the Ringer on Trustpilot & Reddit

Trustpilot routinely gives companies negative scores, and the case is no different here with PrizePicks. In totality, PrizePicks is looking at a 1.7 to 1.8 range (out of 5) score from the haters. The positives amount to the simplicity of PrizePicks, solid payment processing times, and a satisfying customer service experience.

Now the ugly part. A lot of people were really not happy about the slow (and sometimes failed) ID verification process, as well as unnecessary account restrictions and being stuck in a period of inactivity. There were additional gripes about the gameplay being too simple, the withdrawal times taking too long, and the customer service department “sucked” - exactly what drew praises from the same platform.

After reading those love letters, I hopped onto Reddit next and saw a lot of similar complaints, including some juicy rumors, with some users saying the lines shifted unfavorably, with general favorability towards sharp players, and “scam” accusations that payouts were suddenly capped.

It’s tough to say if any of those latter accusations are true or not, but I do know that PrizePicks is under the microscope when it comes to fair play. You never really know whether these are just disgruntled players on a losing streak or fake accounts from competing companies.

Depositing Your Way to Play at PrizePicks

PrizePicks has a solid number of options for a DFS provider, at least limited to the most popular ones. Debit cards and online banking are easily accessible, while e-wallets like PayPal, Venmo, and Apple Pay are for the technologically advanced. Unfortunately, credit cards are not accepted as a payment method at PrizePicks.

Based on what PrizePicks offers its customers in terms of payment types, I see no reason to complain. PrizePicks offers popular and reliable options for just about everyone.

Withdrawing Your Hard-Earned Money at PrizePicks

To get your first withdrawal from PrizePicks, you will need to complete the standard KYC (Know Your Customer) process, which includes uploading your ID and taking a selfie. Once you’re approved, the process is as simple as requesting a withdrawal, which has a minimum withdrawal amount of $10.

You can use PayPal, Venmo, debit cards, and online banking/ACH transfer - the online wallets like PayPal and Venmo are less than a day, while the debit cards and online banking/ACH transfers could take anywhere from 1-5 days, depending on your institution.

It is also worth noting that Apple Pay is allowed for deposits but NOT for withdrawals.

Withdrawal Methods Rating: 4.8/5

I’m generally satisfied with these withdrawal methods. It feels like everyone has PayPal, Venmo, or a bank account these days, so most of the bases are covered.

PrizePicks’ Customer Support: Chatting it Up with the Robots

The 24/7 chat line is everyone’s favorite, as the A.I. chatbot can answer any of your most basic questions; you could even email them (support@prizepicks.com) for anything above that.

The social media route is always there (@PrizeSupport), and there’s even a Discord server that can link you up with an associate to handle your needs. Unfortunately, there is no dedicated phone line to reach PrizePicks, so those other options will have to do.

Customer Support Rating: 4.2/5

I am one of the few people who still find phone calls useful, and I don’t love that PrizePicks doesn’t have a phone team, but I understand why (cost-cutting). With all of that being said, they do have the best secondary options, and the Discord server serves the youth.

PrizePicks’ Legal Status & Licensing

PrizePicks is a fully licensed DFS provider that operates in 36 states and DC. The company is not regulated in the same way as sportsbooks, as they are considered a game of skill - rather than chance, like gambling. 

The PrizePicks’ platform uses geolocation technology to make sure you are within a legal state’s borders while using the app/website. When you sign up for a new account, PrizePicks requires you to download the app first to register using a state ID/selfie to verify you are who you say you are.

There was a brief issue with the New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) back in 2023, but after settling for nearly $15 million and rebranding as PrizePicks, they are now fully in compliance with the law. No cheating scandals or breaches of data have emerged from the company, so you know you’re in good hands here for DFS play. More on that NYSGC story in the “Responsible Gaming” section coming up…

PrizePicks’ Design and User Interface

The PrizePicks platform has a lively black-and-purple color scheme with some neon-green pops that immediately grabs your attention. From there, everything goes back to the simplicity for even the newest players joining the fun.

All of the screens are identifiable, and you won’t be searching around for hours on what to do; the basic “More or Less” model essentially does the guesswork for you. When you’re in-game, the excitement definitely ratchets up a notch, and the live scoring updates are pretty sweet.

As for the desktop experience, it was just as good, but I wasn't completely blown away. There’s more room for you to conduct your business as usual, and I am definitely a fan of that.

User Experience Rating: 4.8/5

Very close to a perfect score for PrizePicks on the presentation aspect, but I wouldn’t mind a more basic color layout. That’s just my preference, and I’m sure plenty of you won’t mind it all.

PrizePicks’ Responsible Gambling

PrizePicks surprised me a bit with its responsible gaming tools, which explains why it became the first (and only) fantasy sports company to receive iCAP (Internet Compliance Assessment Program) accreditation from the NCPG (National Council on Problem Gambling) in March 2025.

All of the basic tools are there: limits on deposits/entries/losses, timeouts, and the self-exclusion option for any amount of time. There are plenty of links on the app/site, such as the 1-800-GAMBLER number and educational campaigns, to keep everyone informed.

Legal battles have come PrizePicks’ way, most notably in New York, as the NY State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) went forward with a regulatory enforcement action against the company. It was stated that PrizePicks (operating as SidePrize LLC) offered “unauthorized interactive fantasy sports contests.”

In 2023, New York made changes to its interactive fantasy sports regulations, which, in turn, allowed the NYSGC to conclude that SidePrize LLC was never in compliance with the state’s gambling and fantasy sports laws. SidePrize LLC had to pay a settlement of just under $15 million, but was able to reapply (which became PrizePicks).

Responsible Gaming Rating: 5/5 

New York has been a thorn in the side of the DFS industry from the very beginning, and the state will tax you for breathing its air. This was a short-sighted ruling by the NYSGC, so don’t take it as PrizePicks doing anything wrong. They get a perfect score for dealing with the nonsense - and coming back stronger than ever! 

Expert Verdict & Final Rating on PrizePicks

At the end of the day, PrizePicks is a serviceable option in pick’em-style DFS, but more can be done for the customer. The Live Picks are really cool, piggybacking off the live prop bets we’ve seen from sportsbooks. While the multiplier-payout does limit you from getting that huge first-place prize in large-field DFS contests, the reality is that most people don’t ever sniff those prizes; this payout structure leaves everything in your hands.

I was a bit critical of PrizePicks at times during this review, but I really do think they could push the envelope a little more. The lack of a VIP program hurts, and they are definitely missing out on my long-term business. I also think they should enter the best-ball space, but who knows - they may eventually be forced into it by keeping pace with competitors.

If you’re just trying to get in on the game in the simplest of forms, you are really going to enjoy PrizePicks. However, if you’re looking for the whole enchilada, you may be left a little hungry.
